First and foremost, remember this: A YES vote = the bill passes. A NO vote = The bill's failure to advance in the legislative process.

UPDATE 03/04/26

Thanks to the input from our guests, it is now a question of legality, and the responsibility of the Secretary of State Tobias Read to investigate this. Please reach out to your Secretary of State and help him understand that this must be investigated.

Our team has reached out to him and his response will be posted here.

Representative Jason Kropf has faced allegations of creating a hostile working environment and intimidating a colleague during a vote on a firearm bill. These claims have led to a conduct complaint and a call for a thorough investigation by House Republicans.

Overview of the Allegations Against Representative Kropf

Hostile Work Environment Complaint

Representative Jason Kropf, a Democrat from Bend, is facing allegations of creating a hostile work environment. The complaint stems from an incident during a House Judiciary Committee session on February 16, 2026, regarding House Bill 4145, which aims to tighten firearm regulations in Oregon.

Details of the Incident

  • Initial Vote: Representative Thủy Trần initially voted "no" on the bill, expressing concerns about its implications for lawful gun owners.

  • Private Conversation: After calling a recess, Kropf had a private discussion with Trần in the hallway for about 20 minutes. Upon returning, Trần changed her vote to "yes," allowing the bill to advance.

  • Witness Accounts: A citizen who observed the interaction filed a complaint, stating that Trần appeared visibly shaken after the conversation. Trần later confirmed that Kropf's actions contributed to a hostile atmosphere during the meeting.

Political Reactions

  • Republican Response: House Republicans have called for a thorough investigation into the allegations, claiming that Democratic leadership is not addressing the issue adequately. They argue that the situation undermines trust in the legislative process.

  • Democratic Leadership: In response, House Speaker Julie Fahey criticized the Republican boycott of the session, emphasizing the importance of fulfilling legislative duties.

Current Status

Kropf has resigned from his position on the House Committee on Conduct, stating that his presence was distracting from the House's work. The complaint against him is under review by the Legislative Equity Office, but its current status remains unclear.

One of UTSOC's network leaders is looking into this matter, and communicating with the Legislative Equity Office.

The Oregon Legislative Equity Office has this to say about the investigation: "The Legislative Equity Office does not provide any information or comments regarding confidential matters, including the existence or non-existence of investigations. Thank you for understanding."

My response to you on March 2, 2026, was pursuant to Rule 27 and the public records laws pertaining to this office, which can be found at ORS 173.936. I’ve attached Rule 27 for your information.
