Our local Bend Human Rights and Equity Commission has recently made national news, on certain claims of attacks at their 03/27/24 Meeting... As put by Emily Cureton Cook on OPB “More disembodied voices began to use antisemitic slurs, Nazi slogans and homophobic insults. One man chanted the N-word over and over, until city staff cut off his mic."

The video of this meeting was taken down from the Bend City YouTube page, and the audio was removed from the majority of the video. However, with a search online, an archive of the video was found, and the closed captioning was still activated. So a transcript of the commenters can be seen below.

In the Bulletin 05/01/24, "It was right to take city of Bend video down with racist slurs". It was stated the video documenting this 'harrowing event', should be removed because "A barrage of racist threats, racial slurs, anti-Semitism, homophobia, and a description of graphic sexual violence flooded both Council chambers and our online meeting space." - Andres A. Portella III - Guest Column - Bend Bulletin 05/01/24. Andres also claimed to have been called the N word 19 times in that meeting.

From the transcript, you can see that most of the commenters were simply voicing their comments and concerns, which isn't considered attacks they have so claimed.

The interesting part is this: The last caller "Barry Gall" was obviously calling with the clear intent to spout offensive rhetoric, which was a long slur of inappropriate words, and insane ramblings. He was allowed to go on. He was not cut off right away.

Clearly from the previous speaker Chad Baseball, the moderator of the Bend HREC Meeting had the complete ability to cut off the speakers. But didn't cut off "Barry Gall". Why? You might ask yourself.

"It wasn't the first time people have phoned in and hurled racial language during HREC meetings, but commissioners hope to make it the last."- says KTVZ in their story "City of Bend reacts to racist ‘Zoombombing’ of Human Rights & Equity Commission meeting, seeks to avoid repeat"

The entire video (minus the audio) can be viewed here.

It's true there is much anger surrounding the unconstitutional DEI programs taking over most of our government and business policies. No one deserves to be attacked personally based on their race etc.... BUT making false accusations of such things is almost worse.

So no retraction from The Bend Bulletin or KTVZ or OPB etc...??? Interesting.

When i first saw this I commented on the Bend Bulletin Letter to the Editor from Andres Portela 04.30.24. My comment was to the fact that this was a false accusation and the link to the meeting archive video. The Bend Bulletin took it down. Censorship at it's finest.

Yes the Bulletin won't post comments or letters to the editor if it doesn't fit their narrative.

I didn't see the "antisemitic slurs, Nazi slogans and homophobic insults. One man chanted the N-word over and over,". So I mean......

That is the point. One caller went on a rant, was not cut off, and probably was one of their own. For the purpose of backing up their false accusations.

Why isn't this story titled "Bend HREC totally fucking lies about being attacked because of their skin color."

Well we probably shouldn't use the F word.
